Question W116 Transmission...

Hello All,

How much will a messed up vacumme system in my 1980 W116 affect, if at all the proper operation of my transmission?

Prolly completely mess up the shifting--especially the quality of shifts....

IF its the 722.1 (Not sure, never seen W116 diesel here) Everything is controlled by vac when this trans is used in W123, so assuming would be the same for W116....

Vac is Very Important with All M.B. pre 722.6 transmissions I believe....

just replace the vacuum modulator and call it a day. takes all of 20 minutes on a 116 with all that clearance between the tranny and the tunnel. on 201/124, it's another story

W116 tranny controlled by Bowden cable(rod) and vacuum. Too much vacuum will cause flaring, too little vacuum hard shifts. Put a Mity Vac in the line going to modulator, lead the vacuum hose out thru the cowl and leave the gauge visible so you can monitor the vacuum as you drive around. Report back with the results.
