Aftermarket wheel sizes

I am considering picking up some Mahle-type BBS wheels for my W123 - my bundts are looking pretty worn out. I found a classified for some used ones, seller says they're "5 x 120" - that's 5 lugs, but what does the 120 mean? How can I be sure that these will fit on my W123? They're 14 inch which is OK with me, I can re-use my tires which have plenty of life in them.

Also - are the center caps easy to find? Two are missing, the two present are BMWs.

thanks,

5x120 is the bolt battern. 5 lugs 120 mm apart.

I dont think this will fit your 123. I'm pretty sure Mercedes lug pattern is 5x112...

I do believe nearly ALL MERCEDES are 5x112mm. I believe the 112mm measurement is taken between every other bolt, center to center.

Once you find 5 x 112mm you should be concerned with offset.

Discussion on tire sizes and offset here: Tires for my 1984 300CD

Google says 5x120 are probably BMW. Maybe Audi/VW also have 5x112. I believe they should also be "hubcentric" which means they have the same diameter holeto fit snugly and not vibrate.

Thanks to all who replied, now I know what to look for. The set I mentioned is on ebay, and listed as BMW wheels. I liked the dark spokes with the shiny rims. That set in DFW is tempting, I'll think about it.
