New Member and Newly Acquired 82 300SD

Hey all,
I have recently acquired an '82 MB 300SD in fairly good condition I think. Most of everything is in good condition and other than cosmetics most everything is good on the car, I'll be sure to let check out the forum if I run into any problems like I have with my 300E class (which all my pictures are back in the states .)
Just found out there's a 5 picture maximum so I'll post a few more times showing all the pictures I have so far.

Welcome to the forum!
that looks like a nice car! looks like someone took out the cruise actuator, and the a/c lines, and likely the compressor. also, that power steering cover is not from an 82, but the fuel filter is... perhaps someone just swapped over the nut from the PS cover.
You might want to pull a wheel off, and make sure there are no spacers in there, the 124 series wheels don't fit properly without spacers, the 126 ones do. also, make sure you get the long lugs if they are the proper wheels!

Awesome thanks! This is why I like this forum and finally decided to be a part of it. Yes the AC compressor is actually missing. I'll make sure to check everything you said when I get back stateside in a few months. Or have someone do it for me.
I noticed that you are located in Mount Holly, NC. That's right outside of Charlotte isn't it? I'm stationed out at Seymore Johnson AFB about an hour south of Raleigh.

Welcome to the forum.
They look like 126 wheels, the 124 ones have more rounded holes.
Its a nice looking car, I hope you get a great run out of it.

yes, but do you notice the lugs are really sunken in there... I'm thinking he has bundt lugs in there. when we meet up, I'll give you a set of the correct lugs...

Or he could have W201 14" wheels which look like the W126 15" versions. Notice how the sidewall is quite high and how the wheel sits too far out from the width of the tire treads. And maybe that's why the lugs look recessed.

I was wondering why the sidewalls look enormous, and now that you mention it, my 300E's lugs are flush with the wheel. I don't know any history of this car, but I couldn't just let it sit and deteriorate more than it has already. I was thinking about buying brand new wheels eventually. I'll take everything into consideration when I get back home and do a thourough check of this car. Worse come to worse I'll just have to buy brand new wheels for it. My dad also mentioned there was an oil leak going on when he was looking at it...I'm thinking it could be originating behind cyl#5...but I'll search the forum, I'm sure others have had some type of leak before.

The seats look real nice, overall not a bad looking ride. I noticed that your waste gate points to the spring prech like my replacement engine in my SD. My original engine had it pointing forward. Does anyone know what the diff is?

Oil leak on the side near #5 may be the oil filter housing gasket. Plenty of info out there on the forum. A PITA repair. A careful pressure wash of the engine bay and some snooping for the source(s) will pay dividends before you dive in there.

The SJ base hobby shop lifts and parts washer may soon become your best friends...
