how to change transmission oil in 1987 mercedes 300d HELP!
i need help to figure out how to change the oil in the tranny in my 300d and what kind of oil is better to use for it.........
and also does anyone know what the problem could be that the heat only works on one setting and cant turn it off... thank you |
it's best to begin a new thread for the heat issue.
the transmission has a pair of drains. one in the pan, one in the torque converter. drain all the oil from those bolts, then drop the pan. change the filter, and gasket on the pan. put it back on, and fill via the dipstick tube 5 quarts. start the car, let it idle for a minute, then put it in drive, reverse, drive, low, 3, drive, reverse. then check the level while the car idles in park. aim for the low point on the dipstick then go for a drive. park on a known level spot and check it again after the car is up to full operating temp. any transmission fluid rated Dexron III not the new Dexron VI |
This will get you into the ball park. It's basically the same procedure as listed here: http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/Trans7226Fluid.
