124 HVAC motor replacement Guide?

Is there a step by step guide on how to replace the HVAC Motor? Mine has seized and it's butt cold outside...

on the 124, you have to pull the windshield wiper motor, and the box under it houses the blower motor...
whunter would be the best bet for links to diy's on the change.

how out of service is your 95? ya could grab the motor from there...
but before you tear it apart... have you checked the fuse? it's in the holder outside the main fuse box. it's a strip fuse, or it may have a link in there, mine does...

The '95 blower is smaller/different, changed when they added the fresh air filters in '94.

The blower R&R is fairly straight-forward, just remove 'em as you see 'em.

First is the inner and outer gasket/seal in the hood area, then the rubber trim at the base of the windshield, then remove the center (rear) section of the inner firewall (just un-fasten it and tip it forward against the valve cover), then the bolts securing the wiper assembly, remove the four tiny phillips screws in the plastic arcuate retainer around the rubber bib under the wiper assembly, rotate the wiper motor up and out of the hole with the wiper blade still parked in the up position away from the glass, unplug the wiper motor and set aside, remove the clips around the blower housing lid and 4 (?) screws, the lid lifts off. Remove the spring-clip holding the motor down, unplug and it's gone.

The speed regulator is beneath the motor, if you're not replacing it do it a favor and clean the porcupine heat-sink well. Also clean the now exposed evaporator coil, you'll get much more airflow when the blower is replaced.

I might have missed a step or two above, but there aren't any surprises if you're careful and look around, the tiny phillips screws are the hard ones to catch. It's a bit of a tight squeeze, might have to push a bit on the inner-firewall piece to get things in and out, but I've never had to totally remove it (yet) for this task. Ditto with the wiper arm, I have found absolutely no advantage to removing it from the wiper assembly, but some claim it must be done, YMMV.

There also is IIRC a DIY for this in the DIY forum, with photos.

there's a guide here:

http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/W124BlowerMotor

it's an easy job but there are a few spots where you can break fragile fasteners.

That's a great tutorial, but disregard and don't waste your time disassembling the wiper arm first, I've never needed to and I've done this job at least 10 times.

Real Charmer happened today... Ordered the motor. They send the one for the wagons with the cabin air filter. Completely useless to me.... OTOH the other motor IS a fused mass of metal now. Stunk when I finially got the bloody thing out....

Oh, if you've ever wondered what the difference between the old style motor without the cabin filter and one that is for the cabin filter car
now you know.
