I had a tranny fluid leak in the 190 so I figured it was the gasket.

I carefully dropped the pan and put a new gasket in. I was careful make sure the gasket was properly in place when i secured the pan back on. I properly torqued it to 8 Nm. The oil change amount is 6 quarts.

With the engine NOT running, I put in 4 quarts with no problems. When I started pouring in the 5th quart, ATF started profusely dripping out of the tranny but I could not figure out from where. I tightened the rear bolts just a little bit more and it seemed to help a little.

I figured that if I got some ATF into the torque converter, it would help. So I started the car, then poured in the last 2 quarts. This time there was no dripping.

So the question is, is there some sort of overflow sytem to the tranny where excess fluid is supposed to leak out like that? Are you supposed to add fluid while the engine is running to avoid the leak?
