What is the 0(2) sensor light on the dash of an 83sd for?
I've recently been given an 83 300SD (turbo) and don't have a manual on it, and I'm wondering what the dummy light on the dash that's marked "0" 2 (as in 0-squared) is in reference to? And how do you check to make sure it's working correctly, what would it indicate if it was on, etc? My 81 300D doesn't have it.

never seen one in any of my SD's... I've got 3 and work on about 10 others...
ya got pics? |
That is strange. I'll get a picture of it with my cell phone and put it on here. At least I don't have to worry about another system to trouble shoot.

Yes, a picture is worth a thousand words.
I agree that you have an Espritzen cluster. Is there a glow plug lamp? If not, then your cluster was swapped from an E. |
Does your tachometer have a "red line" on it -- an actual red-painted zone at the top RPMS? If so, that's ANOTHER indication that you have a gas car cluster instead of the diesel one.
Diesel tachometers have no red markings whatsoever and only go up to "60" for 6000 rpm. Engine only does 48-5200 or something like that. Agree that the only way you could get an oxy sensor light in a 300SD is by swapping the cluster. |

No red line that I could see. Here's a pic of the right side of the cluster with the dummy light and the tach. (Sorry, it's a cell phone pic)

It has been swapped, an 83 SD does not have a 160mph speedo, but rather it maxes at half that. Looks like they may have put in the original tach and clock back in. How well does your speedo work?

Good question. I towed it home, so I haven't been able to check it, but the guy who gave it to me drove halfway across the US before it broke down, so I assume it was working ok.

83 SD has a 120mph speedo... Gasser tach has a redline... perhpas someone changed the differential, and swapped in an entire cluster, but kept the diesel tach/clock OE...
neato. |
Agreed with above.
As for cell phone pic. Try better lighting and anchoring the phone somehow so it doesnt shake while capturing the image. |
Awww, That just means you need to roll down the window, and let some air in!:D
