91 350 sdl

I have a question for some of you guys. I bought a 91 350 sdl with 190,000 miles on it. The previous owner had a problem with it, He was driving it and all of a sudden it started smoking heavily. He had it towed home had the mechanic look at it. Supposedly he said it needed a turbo or a complete rebuild. I have started the car once or twice for very short times it will spit oil out of the tail pipe. The question is this a problem with just the head gasket or would it need a commplete rebuild. Sorry this is so long.
