Matainence records
Vehicle records, When looking for a W123 diesel, you find a selection for sale with 150,000 to250,000 miles. One car has all the matainence records from day one. My question to the forum is this.Would this paper work add any monetary value to the asking price? PO has brought this up in my negotiating with him.

Selling point for sure. How much money it's worth is a different story. I would pay a little more but not tons more.

full service records on a car with 250K on it is only a good selling point if ALL the bad things that go wrong with a car have been replaced.
on the 150K car it's really important, if it shows brakes, fluid flushes, oil changes etc... it's not just the records, but WHAT the records show.

I probably wouldn't pay more for records, but if I were considering two similarly priced cars, and one of them had really complete records, I'd sure favor that one.
I had one car I bought where the guy never mentioned maintenance records until I went to pick it up...then he handed me a thick file folder with every receipt for the last 20 years, right down to the window sticker from the dealership! I was floored. Usually I consider myself lucky if they haven't lost the owner's manual. |

The rest of assumptions from past service records are basicallhy interpretive in my opinion. Yes it may increase the value a little but this again depends on what is in those records. |

I don't know paying a premium for full service history. Maybe a small one, but the seller probably already has that (a bigger premium) included in his asking price. That said, I'd definitely discount a car without a FSH.

It's usually an indicator that at least one of the owners was fastidious and cared about the car enough to maintain it. It's a good sign, considering how flaky these odometers are. However, if the seller advertises the car as having all service records, they usually want a premium for the car anyway.

If I was purchasing a really low milage car that was priced higher, the maintainance records are a must for milage proof/higher price.
