Shell Rotella 5w40 synthetic in the M102, M103, 617, and M116. (all of them) All run great! My 617 has done nearly 100,000 miles on the stuff since I replaced my timing chain, and it has only stretched 1/2 of a degree....and still starts at -10F.

I run Rotella 15W-40 from spring to fall. This past year I used Rotella 10W-30 in the colder winter months. I try and keep it out of the snow though. I have used Napa 15W-40 Diesel oil. I would use synthetic, but my engine uses or looses a bit to much oil.

Did you make sure Rotella 10w30 is diesel rated? I'm guessing it is not.

this thread looks to be a "which brand DINO oil do you use"

me thinks, since 10 is the limit on poll questions, I'll start another with which synthetic oil do you use...
with a multiple choice on viscosity, and brand...
