1984 300TD flaring between 1st/2nd

Looking at buying a wagon, 1984 with 196K miles. The ad states that it "feels like sometimes slips into 1st". Not sure if that means slips between 1st and 2nd or what...can't imagine it is slipping from 3rd or 4th into 1st. I guess I am going to have to go test drive...just had another unlucky visit to see a wagon today. I'm waiting for more information from the seller before driving another 100 miles to see another wagon.

Any ideas?
