$1200 '93 300D in NC

Okay everyone, my car runs well but it needs a new control arm on the rear passenger side and some transmission work. Also i have had terrible luck with people hitting my car and having no insurence. The body needs some TLC. I really don't know how severe the transmission problem is all i know is it wont go into gear. I am a college student with a full time job and right now i dont have time or the funds to care for this old yet great car. The person who gave it to me absolutely cherished it and even went out and got another one after giving me this one. It deserves someone who will give it the TLC it needs! Right now i really need to get another car because i worked really hard this semester and i cant let it go to waste with three weeks left. I also have a lot of responsibilities at work that i have to tend to. I know this is a classic, and a lot of you out there know how to treat her right. $1200 obo. Please let me know if you have any interests or questions! Just texted her to ask a question or two. I'll post what I know here, to save her from having to answer the same questions five hundred times.

The only thing I really asked was what was wrong with the transmission, and had she checked the fluid and the "simple" stuff. She says that the trans fluid was okay, and that she put Lucas slip stop in it. This made it work for a day or two longer and then "it completely quit going into gear."

Even at $1200, I haven't got the funds for another "project" with three in the fleet already. In my mind, if the thing has fluid in it and still won't go into gear, the trans is probably toast in any case. Can't think of many other things that could make it fail in that way and still be "easy" to recover from.

These things always happen too far away from me. I was tempted to contact her, but really it will cost me more to have it towed here than it's worth to me so I'd only be wasting her time.

If it were nearby and rust-free I'd have a transmission in it tomorrow night.

John, did she take your offer? It occurs to me that she might be grateful or she might think she's being scammed; the old "If it seems too good to be true" adage.

IF she didn't respond or got suspicious, I'd be glad to vouch for you since I've already made contact. I won't do so until or unless you suggest it, however, otherwise she'll just assume we're in the same car-flipping gang

Hey this is my car for sale! vstech, i didn't get your text message! i would love that offer! i really really want to stay in school and i feel like a huge burden to my grandmother for using her car even to just get back and forth to work. i have pictures of the body interior and engine.

I also talked to someone today that new a bit about transmissions and he told me that what it sounded like was the front belt of the transmission when i explained it to him because it goes into reverse just fine but wont go into gear in 2, 3 or D. at least in 2 i can feel it trying to go into gear and drive forward. i dont know what else to really say about it. any questions or anything feel free to ask!

Front belt? No such thing, move on to the next technician.

The transmission can likely be repaired, could get lucky and have it be the B2 piston, otherwise a transmission swap is likely far less expensive than anything that involves opening the old transmission for repairs.

I know that there are many more people over here with diesel knowlege and interest, thus my posting your ad here, I hope that's okay. If John/VStech gets a chance to look at it, I'd trust his integrity a great deal, and his opinion also, you're in good hands.

I really feel for the seller here, in same position life-wise being in school and working etc. I hope this has a happy ending, sounds like it might be a B2 piston blowout and the tech who looked at the trans does not know MB trans too well. Dent looks typical of college parking lot unfortunately
