190d with 3.0 6 cyl?
 

wrecked my sdl so im looking for a blown up sdl or d and im wondering if my motor n tranny would fit in a 190d? sdl is my favorite but i wouldnt mind dropping a couple hundred pounds

The 190 I bought to put my 2.2 diesel into had a 2.6 - 6 cyl gas motor. There was not a lot of room between the fan and the radiator, but I think it would work. Other's have done it.

A 1993 190E 2.6 has a curb weight of 3040 lbs. and a 2.85 axle. 158 hp / 162 ft lbs torque
A 1987 300SDL has a curb weight of 3835 lbs. and a 2.88 axle. 148 hp / 201 ft lbs torque

Do the math and wipe that silly grin off your face.

If you are going to do this, find a 190 with a manual trans. and put the diesel in front of the manual trans.

190e 2.6 would be a better fit
 

The 190d NA has a welded in front rad support, same as the 190e 4cyl gasser. The 190e 2.6 has a bolted in rad support same as the 190DT. It would be easier to get everything in and working if you can take the rad support out to install the engine. Also the rads mount different one to the rear of the rad support the other underneath. 190 2.6s are a dime a dozen so you could get a cherry body to start with. Cheers Dan

greg idk wut math ur talkin about im looking to gain some mpg i was hovering around 30 mpg hwy driving stricly 65 with the sdl im sure it would go up in a lighter car

I think he meant performance.

Lighter would only improve city mileage. If you want 35mpg then you need a smaller engine. Like a 2.2.

2.2 gives me dead leg to drive i need a turbo

go run around with 100 pound backpack city hwy wherever ull burn more energy than naked dont tell me lighter would only improve city mileage

or go drive around with 800 pounds of poop in ur car n then u can believe it doesnt hurt ur mpg

my dad has a 190 2.5 turbo i like it and it just made me wonder i think well just wait for a clean blown 300

Look up the mpg numbers of the w124 3L turbo, w124 2.5L turbo, w201 2.5L turbo. The 3L doesn't do as well mpg wise for the same weight car, whereas smaller engine equals more mpg.

Oh, there's a 190d that comes with a 2.5L turbo stock btw. Might be peppy enough for ya.

300sdl the mpg website claims 18 n 22 i got 28.somethin from pa to vermont rarely goin over 65

if i take the motor(came outta 300d) out of my w126 300sdl n put it with the slighty different tranny(different gearing n speedo cable or something) of a 300d im sure ill get better mpg
or if it would work in an even smaller 190 id get evennn better mpg

I meant do a search and see what forum members say they're getting. For example, this neat thread on 190D mpg. Interesting to see how automatic vs manual makes a big difference...

You could also compare what members are saying about 300SDL vs 300D mileage. I didn't actually look this time but my hunch is they're the same, the weight difference isn't very big (only the 190 is significantly lighter). They do use the exact same gearing btw.

Highway mileage is all about air resistance and gearing. I have an 83 123 bodied car running a euro 617 NA but with a 307 diff and a manual five speed OD tranny. I get 35 running 75 mpg with it.

My body is getting shaggy now and I am daydreaming about a 190 body with the same drivetrain. I would then run a 265 diff and I bet I would get 45 mpg with no trouble.

The larger motor would be offset by taller gearing.

Of course you could get better mileage with a 2.2 motor, the 265 diff and a stick od tranny but I am not sure the little 2.2 would pull that tall a gear.

straight up idk wut u guys r talkin about with gearing my dads my mechanic i help him with wut i can like workin the motor hoist i ride 4 wheelers so i understand gearing with changing the wheels/tires n sprockets but 2.88 n stuff is beyond me

the way i feel is if i take my motor out of the heavier car n put it in the lighter car it should be less work for my motor but enough about mpg


i know theres a bunch of different 190s so does anyone know which one if any my motor and tranny will drop right into? me and my dad are diesel benz enthusiasts not monster garage lol

i wouldnt trust a tranny out of a 190d non turbo because my motor has a lot more torque n im in it for the long run


its a recession im just lookin for a cheap broken benz to fix with my wrecked sdl(front left wheel got ripped back ball joint broke right off)

I would find a 2.5 190d and be happy. Swapping a diesel engine(om60x) into a gas body is easier said than done. Just about any engine would get better mpg's with a manual transmission vs. an automatic. Find a om603/om602 w124/w201 and put a manual in it.

id rather not cook a weak tranny not built for a turbo diesel;)
