MB 190D OWNERS -what kind of mileage are your getting?

Im interested in the stats for both the 2.2 and 2.5 cars ,also the 2.5 turbos would be a good addition to the survey.Im an owner of a 88 2.5 non turbo with the odometer out and wasnt sure of its economy .Its just a bit better on fuel than my 300d cars, but not by much.

Same Here.

Hey Dave, you have a stickshift 190D 2.5T. Me too, and I have enough parts to build another one. I love this combination.

On long highway trips, I have been able to get just slightly over 40mpg with a 5-speed 190D 2.5T and the original 2.65 rearend. This is a very "long legged" setup that you will not use to win many drag races. However, once it's on the highway, you will be sipping the fuel.

My 190D 2.5turbo with original automatic and 2.65:1 typically returned high 30s with a round-trip high at 60mph (2-lane highway) of 42.5mpg.

For my 190D-2.2 5-speed, in the summer:
  • Around the city, 34-36 mpg
  • On the highway at 65mph, 38-42 mpg
  • On the highway at 50mph, 44-48 mpg (if you don't get run over). This is the slowest the car can go in 5th gear.
  • Mixed city/highway driving is usually around 35-40.
Winter is usually a few mpg less (e.g. 100% city driving when it is -20 out only returns 31 or 32mpg ).

1987 190 2.5 turbo

During the last 21,516 miles I have averaged 30.57 mpg. Best mpg was 35.45 followed immediately by 29.04. I'm guessing I did not fill that one tank completely.

Most of my travel is on the interstate but as I really like driving this car I am rarely trying for an economy run.

601 5 spd mileage

I don't do as well as cornblatt in my 84 190D 2.2 five speed manual:

City 32-35 mpg
Highway 36-39 mpg

Best I ever got was highway cruising at 65, no A/C, and coasting in N down the long hills for as long as possible without blocking traffic= 42 mpg.

Not a 2.5 turbo - my 2.2 automatic only gets about 32 mpg on long highway trips. Any ideas on what could be wrong?

Normally, I drive about 65 MPH. I replaced the ATF and filter last summer.
