Just got an 06 E320 CDI

I've mostly been a lurker for the last couple of years, and with the great wisdom on this forum I transformed a good 87 SDL into a great one. Thank you to all for all of your contributions. Especially those with pictures!

I sold the magnificent longbody W126 to a dear friend of mine who had his eyes on it from day 1. Hopefully he will join us here, soon. For those of you who are curious, I kept every receipt and recorded everything I ever did, every drop of fuel, etc... I averaged 28.49 mpg over 49,000 miles of driving. My worst tank was 26.1 mpg and my best just under 32 mpg. When I sold it, the car was current on everything. 30 mpg is very doable, but you have to stay on top of things.

Now, on to the great unknown. After many months of looking, I purchased a Platinum Blue Metallic/Ash Gray 2006 E320 CDI. It was a 1-owner, dealer serviced 37,000 mile creampuff, with records. I found it on craigslist in the greater Seattle area, and had it trucked out to Colorado. As a pretty devoted DIY'er, I mostly just searched and stood on the shoulders of you guys on my SDL. Keeping up the CDI will be a lot of new ground. I pledge to return the favor on this car; when I do maintenance and repairs, I will try and document everything for my family here! I'll try and post some pics later this week.

Documents, photos and walk through type write ups will not go unthanked here. I've been saving my pennies for a 'cream puff' of a CDI and when I find it I'll come here first to offer my '87 up for sale. She's aging, and shows it but there are still many miles to go.

Congrats on the '06. I have a platinum blue '05. Love that color.

Fuel filter is definitely not as friendly to DIY as the older models, but so far I've had no problem doing all my work myself, including pads and rotors on the SBC brake system.

I got my "cream puff" with 130k on the odo, and it now has 158k not quite a year later.

Gobs of hp, but still got the itch for more, so I chipped it. 34mpg on creative fuel.

Around here you would wear out your arm waving at every newer benz, when I'm out I see so many black W211s that look just like my wife's car that I have to check the license plate to see if it's hers. A couple of weeks ago my wife and daughter lost hers in a parking lot; hers was the third one they checked.

The old ones are pretty rare here, I know most of the local old ones by sight. The new ones are a dime-a dozen; there must be about 50 W210/211/212s in my neighborhood and a ridiculous number of MLs (the current mini-van of choice).

Piman,

I too just purchased a 2006 CDI. I still kept my 126, it's the wife's daily driver and she likes it better than the CDI! That is ok by me. It has taken me about 3 weeks to figure all the gadgets out. Mine had 85K on the clock, one owner, white, stone interior. So far, I love everything about the car and it's performance. I wish you the best and hope you enjoy it.

Lorainefurniture; I paid 27,500 for it. More than I had intended, but a very fair price for the car.

I'll definitely still waive

I just test drove an 08 320 cdi. It had 38k on the clock. I was surprised on how nice it was on the inside.

They were asking 35k. It did not wow me like I thought it would, so I passed. Still, a very nice car.
