I adjusted the shift cable so it lay perfectly rested on bite position perfectly centred on the locating ball on the lever on the valve cover - I had to unscrew 3 turns outwards - shifting points are quite improved and acceleration has improved but still full throttle still shifts at 4500 rpm.

After reading the factory procedure to adjust the linkage - I did as mentioned loosen the flap connecting rod screw and then the actuator rod ball joint.

adjust the pedal cable so the fulcrum lever just takes up freeplay - tighten down, adjust vacuum flapper by holding it closed. I get the cable end washer to contact the spring perfectly with no tension.

After all this I still have 2 or 2.5 mm freeplay before the pump lever actually starts to move,

So I try to adjust the transmission cable on the "pick up" position of the linkage - transmission shifts early.

Adjusting the cable at the linkage free resting position - I have to it out, this causes the car to behave more like a gas engine car (revvy) and picks up speed quite easily too.

How exactly should I adjust it, which is correct as the WIS does not describe adjusting it on pick up point or free resting point.

btw the 4500 rpm shifts happen only with the adjusing cable at pick up point procedure, If adjusted at free resting point it shifts at 5000 rpm

Chris, tell me more about this EGR modification. Can you link to a thread or web page?

Have a look.

How can one floor the pedal but not press the kickdown? Wont the car always kickdown when the pedal is floored? What am I missing?

the kickdown is a switch which you can feel being pressed by your foot, The max accelerator position is at full travel but just sitting on the switch not pressing it.
