transmission and vacuum 83 240D

I finally replaced the windshield in the car I just purchased. I haven't driven it until now but I've been working on it when i could. The car is known to have several vacuum leaks in the doors especially, and also the line to the transmission. The doors are blocked off with an official MB golf tee, yes that's right. but the line to the transmission is still in the system for now. My question is ,,,, Does this line go to a modulator valve and where is it or what is it? The transmission is shifting at a rather high speed and I believe this leak is the culprit. I will be on vacation starting tomorrow and will be leaving town for home in this car. I would like to have any parts i will need to address the transmission vacuum leak if at all possible, but I don't have a way to get under the car until I get home. I live about 75 miles from the big city so trotting down to the authorized stealer is not an option. I like to grab what i need on the way out.

Line to modulator leaves the VCV on top of the IP and goes down to the transmission. Vacuum does not control shift points on your model (I think). Shift points are controlled via the bowden cable.

no cable no linkage

The line to the transmission comes from valves on top of the cam cover i believe. there is a vacuum control valve on the fuel injection pump also that has lines to these valves. At any rate the black line to the transmission is loosing vacuum. is there a modulator valve or is it something else at the end of the line? Whatever is at the end of this line is leaking and it shouldn't be.

I thought by 83, all models had bowden cables. I guess not. Yes, there's a modulator at the end of that line but it could also be leaking at the fitting. I'm not familiar with a model that has a line from the valve cover to the transmission. All the ones I've messed with have a line from the VCV to the modulator.

vacuum/modulator valve

Well I found a bad connection to my modulator valve. FYI the valve is located on the passengers side and is red. (1983)

However the two switches on top of the cam cover are leaking. I think I will just replace both of them and all of the rubber connecting hoses to the switches. I cant find any more leaks under the hood.

Thank you for all your help once again Pix of the car forthcoming if i can figure how to post them LOL

modulator valve

Repairing the leak at the modulator valve has fixed my shifting problem. The valves atop the cam cover are still leaking, they get the treatment today!
I'll also take a look at the erg stiff and disconnect it if possible.
