Blower motor question - dumb but I gotta ask
Car is a 93 300D 2.5T. Built in mid 1992 as best I can tell. The blower quit awhile back and I am about ready to roast driving without air in central NC this summer.
Background: The fan would run, make noise, then peter out. Then run again another day, then same thing. So I've just not been using it. When I first noticed a problem it actually had blow the strip fuse (the 30A thin metal fuse). I replaced and it's never blown again but clearly something is shot. I tore into it today and have the blower out. A couple questions.
Questions:
I see blowers with dust filter ans w/o. I don't see any dust filter. Here's the dumb part - am I missing something does this car have a dust filter and will it matter which one I order if it doesn't? (some places have dust filter only, some only without. I'm just looking for the cheapest of the brand I want (Behr I guess) so if it offers a dust filter is that just something I can toss and use the motor and fan eitherway?
Next question. Do I need to worry about the regulator while I'm in there. When I had the box opened up before I took out the blower, I keyed up the car and hit the switch. It didn't run, but I just bumped the squirrel cage with my hand and it took off and ran. It was a bit wobbly on one side I would say but there is no play I can see, just wobbly. And it makes some rumbling noice (the same as I started hearing when the problems began) when it runs but the point for this question is the fan is running. Can I assume the regulator is fine and it's just the fan motor it crap?
Last question. The motor I pulled out doesn't seem to be OEM. It's got ACM as the make on it. Is that a replacement already? Doesn't matter just wondering. I am leaning toward buying a Behr but is that a good call, this same motor (ACM is a bit cheaper). LOL - it's failed though so again probably a dumb a** question but I have to ask!
Thanks!
