Missing or incorrect heat shield = knakcered injectors?
The PO swapped out the fuel injectors over a year ago. We're uncertain of the mileage as the odometer was broke (I've since repaired).
I recently pulled the fuel injectors to run a compression test. I didn't notice any heat shields but, after some research elsewhere found that I was to remove anything down there. Attached is a photo of the old "washer/heat shield" (left) compared to the ones that went back in (right). The smaller end was seated into the prechamber. Since then, I've noticed white fuel smelling exhaust at start up and more black smoke under acceleration. Now, the PO was avid poster on another board. There's a thread where he discusses heat shields and how his mechanic was adament that the new sort wouldn't work. I don't know how it was resolved, but I have 4 new type heat shields in a plastic baggie and, well, you can see what I removed. My concerns are three fold: 1. The old shields were either reused or just aren't up to snuff and they've allowed the fairly new FIs to become damaged (possible). 2. They were the correct ones and by adding the new heat shields, I've goofed up (unlikely). 3. I screwed up and didn't remove the heat shield, afterall, and now there's all sorts of wierdness. I did not see the prechamber ball, FWIW, but that could due to a lack of lighting to see down in there. Is it buried deep or near the top of the prechamber? BTW, that thread is here if you want to bore yourself: http://www.mbca.org/forum/heat-shield-differences-om616617-vs-om601 Danka.
