Behold! The sound and fury of the mighty 606!

Here is a run up in 2nd gear and the first part of 3rd, with a Jersey wall just to my left, recorded on the iPhone. This is up to about 4800-4900 rpm, when I had to back off due to traffic. I recently replaced the center section of the exhaust with a single resonator. Stock style muffler is used, albeit an aftermarket one.

I really like the sound!

I need to get around to having my cat removed and straight piped. I can't imagine what it would sound like, but should be decent :-)

The straight pipe drone can get tiresome at highway speeds over long distances.

With cat and resonator removed on my 87 it sounds alot more like a F1 note, without all the loudness. I really like it.

you replaced the trap with a resonator and also have the original middle resonator too?

Ive recently replaced my trap cat with a Y pipe, it sounds stupid at 2000 to 2500 rpm, it makes a metallic rattle.. problem is that when I was running with a gutted trap - the rattle was like marbles in a coffee can.

Cant seem to find a good solution for it to drive silently again.

Hmmm. I don't know what is up with "upload not found" - that was a free hosting site and unfortunately it's blocked from here at my office so I can't check it. I did check it on a separate computer (different than the one I upoaded the wav file on) last night and it worked.

About the resonator, when I bought my car in 2004, it had the center section of the stock exhaust removed and replaced with either 2 resonators or 2 cats, (I don't know if they were cats or just resonators) I don't know because I've never seen a stock system to know how it is. Due to a recent rust out in this section, I took it to a local muffler shop. My car currently has two pipes down from the engine, and at the shop we decided to Y the 2 pipes into 1 larger diameter pipe with a larger, single "glasspack" type muffler/resonator, and then a larger single pipe back to the stock muffler. It was simpler and cheaper than the previous arrangement with individual pipes and 2 "glasspacks".

Have not had any noticeable power loss. And it fortunately does not drone at highway speeds. At some speeds it actually gets super quiet. I'm sure it's louder than stock, but I like it fine.

Rgds,
Chris W.
