very intermittent shut off problem? (83 300SD)

Most of the time my car shuts off ith the key no problem, usually in about 1-3 seconds. I know it should be faster if everything is perfect, but that seems fairly normal. But, occasionally it will keep running for 10 seconds or more, and once i had to use the stop lever to turn it off. About an hour later when i drove the car again it shut off right away with the key. If there any way of fixing this problem? Or is it impossible until it gets worse. Its not that big a deal most of the time, I think it has only done that about 5 times since i bought it the beginning of april, but I could see it turning getting pulled over for a dead liscense plate light (or whatever reason) into a really bad experience, so I would like to fix it if possible.

this is typical of a vehicle with climate control vacuum issues.
what position was the CC in when it shut off? what position when it did not...

Climate control does not work at all. It has gone from having to use the stop lever to kill the engine to shutting off with the key as quickly as a gas car without touching anything else. I guess if its something related to that I will just ignore it, I dont intend on fixing the climate control so I probably wont worry about it.

At least cap the ACC vacuum source at the brake booster check valve so it's not contributing to the problem.

Keep a vacuum gauge in the car. When it won't shut off, take a vacuum reading at the shutoff actuator. That way you'll know if it's a weak signal to the actuator or a lazy actuator.
