Question R134a Refrigerant Temperature...need some A/C expertise

Hey all,

I have just gotten the '85's system recharged at a trustworthy indy shop.

A/C blows cold and is working, blowing at ~50F at highway speed.

However, aux fan does not turn on because the refrigerant temp sensor never sees the refrigerant temp rise above ~125F.

(I tested the aux fan by shorting the temp switch. I also pulled the temp sensor that goes to the R/D and tested it in water. Turns on at about 125F. )

Temp Switch:

So my the R134a isn't getting over 125F after idling with the A/C on for several minutes - is this good? or Bad?

Thanks!
dd

sounds like you have too high a temp switch, and a very clean condenser coil.

I may be Wrong but i'll say. There's nothing wrong with cold air at the vents and low temp refrigerant. I'd bet that if you went on a long hot drive and idle in traffic for a while that fan would kick on. Or drive to texas.

I think the high temp switch is supposed to be replaced with a 115F model during a proper 134 conversion.

any idea of a part # for this?

would generic ones exist at a mcparts store? the threads on the old switch are stuck in the R/D (thats another thread) so Im not opposed to JB welding a lower temp generic switch in.
