Power steering leak / 96 e300d

Some of the earlier posts mentioned o rings at the banjo bolts where the lines connect to the rack, I called the dealer this morning and they told me there were copper washers not o rings. Thanks for any help

How bad is your leak?

When I bought my car 5 years ago, the power steering fluid was leaking. I read all about how to take the unit out, get new seals, and replace them, not a job I wanted to do.

So I asked about the fluid that you put in to stop leaks, and got a bunch of "that stuff doesn't work", and "it will work for a while, then one day your seals will totally blow out while you're driving down the road".

Well, that was 5 years ago. And I'm glad I called Prestone directly, to ask them about their product. They said there are 2 different types of stop leak fluid. One WILL temporarily puff up your seals, but the one they have, somehow rejuvenates the rubber or something. At first, I had to keep an eye on the level and keep refilling a bit, but now, I checked it for the 1st time in probably a year, and it's still full.

So if you don't have a big leak, this may work for you.

What help do you need?

Generally speaking, o-rings need support (ie: to be enclosed) in order to work properly. Banjo fasteners don't provide support.

I am trying to find out if they are o rings or copper washers for the banjo bolts, the dealer told me they were copper washers not o rings. Just wanted to make sure so I could order the proper parts to replace. Thanks for any help

PeachParts FastLane Mercedes Parts Store

Looks like an o-ring at the pump and metal seals at the rack.

Where is the leak?

I put a piece of card board under the engine and It appears to be under the oil pan area, the power steering pump hoses dont apear to be leaking at the pump and the rack assembly from what I can tell is more towards the fire wall. The fluid leaks out about one once a night and it looks like power steering fluid but whats weard is the power steering fluid level is not decreasing , I checked it after about a week of leaking, do you have any ideas ? Thanks
