Loosen the fuel output line at the lift pump. It's the line that goes straight up to the big filter.

IIRC there aren't crush washers or o-rings at the lift pump so that's where I'd crack the line.

Crank the engine while looking into the oil filler to see if the cam is turning. Says nothing about cam timing but the chain's probably okay if the cam's turning.

Then set the crank pulley to 15*ATDC and check for the RIV timing lug in the IP. If you don't see it, give the crank a full turn. If you still don't see it, the IP might have come disengaged from the chain. I don't know how but I suppose it can happen.

No Fuel through the banjo, so it appears that my lift pump is shot. I'll check time on it when I have the gaskets to check the stretch

If the IP isnt turning, a good lift pump won't pump.

Good thing to confirm. Someone with a 601 lost a lift pump within the last couple of weeks. Interesting how they fail in clusters.

The lift pump is a PITA to replace when the lobe isn't on the base circle. IIRC more difficult than the vacuum pump. I don't know if the the installation condition is engine at #1 TDC or 15*ATDC #1.

You might be able to confirm a bad lift pump by feeding fuel from a container above the engine. Disconnect the glow relay to conserve the battery and loosen the injector lines for confirmation of fuel to the injectors.

The other fellow with a bad lift pump is running an electric fuel pump while waiting for a replacement lift pump. Might be something to try if you have one.

I will give that a whack and see with a can of diesel, see if it helps. I dont have a power pump, but it might be worth finding one in the interim, I dont know where my other lift pump is at the moment.

what position is your shutoff valve in?
also, you may have a collapsed fuel tank or a vacuum issue in the tank.

with the key on, the shut off is in the upright position, with the key off, it's laying flat like normal. I did have the vacuum thought as well, and I did open the fuel cap on the side of the road, no whoosh, and I looked under and it's not sucked in anywhere that I could see or feel.
