Cool CAN FRONT COIL SPRING ON A SD BE REMOVED WITHOUT DISCONNECTING ANYTHING

I'm getting information together for replacing the guide rod mount. Did many searches, but can't find if the spring can be removed without disconnecting anything. Must replace rod mount bushing on LCA.

I don't think so. it sits in a pretty deep cup, once the spring is compressed, it's simple to unhook the shock, and the lca bushing bolt to remove the spring. I have not attempted to remove the spring in a 126 though, only 124's and 123's

w126 is almost identical to the w123 only the guide rod mounting is slightly different...

From memory, only the shock needs to be removed. The LCA can remain in place.

heh, yeah, I was going from memory of when I'm scrapping entire cars, but pulling good stuff out... and of course I'm pulling the entire control arm set... so LCA simplest for me! I'm fairly certain either the LCA or the lower ball joint would need to be unhooked though... no?

But, if you are going to the trouble of removing the spring (using an MB spring compressor) you would be money ahead by changing out the LCA bushings while you are in there. LCA and front guide rod bushings are about the only reasons to pull the front springs on the W126 front end.

From memory, nothing on the LCA needs to be removed to get the spring out. However, I do think the lower shock mount will prevent removal of the spring. It's very tight to get the compressed spring out of its perch.
