Do auxiliary water pumps typically LEAK when they FAIL?

I was wondering what sort of correlation people have noticed between a pump's FAILING and a pump's LEAKING.

Several weeks ago, I noticed that my auxiliary water pump was not working. Today, I noticed that my coolant level was slightly low. To me it would make sense that the failed pump is a likely source of the leak....but I haven't felt down there yet.

So is a failed pump also often a leaking pump?

I figured as much...I'm wondering what what the rough degree of correlation is.

If failure is brushes worn down then probably wouldn't be leaking but I'm no expert.
