Seafoam in Diesel Filter
Hi
Was taking a look at the new seafoam bottles on the shelf at WM and Pep Boys, and it says all over it that it is a gas and diesel additive. It even says that one might want to prefill a fuel filter with seafoam. Diesel Purge? OK. Seafoam?!? Isnt that the stuff that has caused runaway diesels and all sorts of trouble? Anyone know if anything has changed? Seems like a bad recommendation. Hope there isnt damage due to this recommendation on the bottles.

Used it to do a purge on my '87 when I got it. No problems. Use it on everything else I have as well.

I can't see how Sea Foam by itself can cause a run-away situation. Most of the time it's the turbo pulling oil from somewhere that causes that...

Snake Oil bottles HAVE to have some "Hook" on them.
This one's is it's alleged ability to do anything other than lighten your Pocketbook/Wallet.
Get yourself some: Redline,Stanadyne or BG . I wouldn't put "Spindrift" (Or Whatever Madison Avenue Moniker they've tagged "It" with) in the: Sump.Fuel Filters,Transmission,CV Joints or "Pumpkin" of a Trabat.

Huh???!?
Seafoam is a well known fuel system cleaner/solvent that is used extensively. Nothing new or hyped there. Was more interested in the diesel fuel filter claims. The rest of it is well known/understood.

Folks here where I live use Seafoam by the gallon in their commercial fishing boats that are prone to carbon build up from low RPM while they slowly pull their shrimp nets. I have used years from everything from a BMW motorcycle to my lawn mower. Does it work? Well, I can't remember any problems and my Cub Cadet is from the '70s and has never had the head off.

If you don't pour it in the intake (that is for gasoline engines only) then you will not have runaway (a diesel does not have a throttle body it responds to the amount of fuel delivered). I use it just like Diesel Purge with the exception of putting it in the crank case.

Good stuff, good info! Might be useful for folks who want to do a diesel purge, but doesn't have access and can't ship it cost effectively... Seafoam is everywhere...
