Thumbs up 300SD defroster pod

My 1984 300SD quit blowing out of the foot area a couple of weeks ago. Last week, I got into the job of tracking the vacuum leak down and determined that the defroster pod had gone bad. Thank you Mity-vac----again. I ordered the pod and waited a few days for it to arrive. Last night, it arrived and I immediately went out to install it. After removing the glove box, there was the pod. It is located directly to the left of the glove box just above the climate control button assembly. My car has the bayonet style mounting and the old pod would not budge when trying to twist it for removal. I began to worry because the metal mounting bracket is attached to the plastic heater box which appeared to be a candidate for shattering once enough torque was put on the pod. There is very little room in the area to manuever or to get some sort of support for the metal bracket. Solution: I heated the end of an old flat screwdriver until it was red hot and used the tip to just melt away the plastic tabs of the old pod. Result: the old pod lifted out and the new pod received a little dab of antiseize and it went right in. Total time:15 minutes. It is the little things in life.
