Were metal rads ever sold for turbodiesel w123s?

In a separate thread, I've described how I broke the outlet spout off my rad, (the little nipple that feeds the overflow tank).

I called my local parts supplier for a price on a rad and they just called back saying they fold a very, very NOS rad in their storage area.

Thing is, they say it's the correct rad but it's apparently ALL METAL, no plastic tanks. They can't find a brand name on it, and it was in a plain brown box. They say it was made in Israel and it weighs a ton.

They claim it's identical to the pics they have on WorldPac of the Nissens rads.

I can't make it over for a day or two to see it myself, so I thought I'd throw out the Q here....

Is it possible that I've accidentally scored a real-live-goodness-sakes rad with METAL TANKS?????

Some of the Members have bought all Metal aftermarket Radiators.

If the main part of the upper tank did not crack; meaning only the plastic Nipple broke of there is 2 workable repairs in the DIY section.

Thanks for that but I am working outside in wintertime so I am set up to re & re but for really little else....

For now I am going to get another rad and will repair this one as a spare for possible future use... I may have an SD on the way in the next couple of weeks.

I have an all metal radiator that I pulled from a 78 300D at PNP.
the top has a sticker "1-800-Radiator" and on the lower tank has a sticker " CSF S2589262 Singapore". so an off shore made radiator.
Maybe they have them for the Turbo models.

It has the radiator cap with overflow tube, and the tank on the bottom for the automatic trans fluid, along with the bracket for the oil cooler mount.

I did see one W116 in the yard with a metal tank. don`t see them very often.

Thanks for the info. I had no idea that you were ever able to get metal rads for the 123 and 126, so this was all news to me.

The 116s SDs came with big old brass rads. Lovely if you can get one rebuilt, not pretty when it came to buying a replacement....

When I did the same thing (break the plastic off at the top hose), I started hunting for a replacement, hoping to find one that was all metal. Wish they had it when I was looking. got stuck with another plastic one.

The rad in the runner has brass tanks, but no brand markings. Didn't check the parts car, but I think it is metal as well. Will check when it isn't dark and -12.

Well I picked up the metal rad today, on spec.

It looks right, the connections seem to be correct, but the mounts for the retaining clips are slightly offset from the Behr. But I think it will work.

Wow this thing is old. The box says "Super Radiators". Made in Israel (which I suspect is code for "Palestine").

I cannot imagine how it paid anyone to ship a metal rad from the Middle East to Canada. Amazing.

This thing is really, really old. I suspect it's actually a rebuilt unit, but it's not marked as such.

I now realize this is the same rad they tried to sell me in ± 2006, when I blew the rad on my then SD. I never took it as I found a used one I had saved from a parts car years before.

Yeah, I can't get over the stupidity of putting PLASTIC in a radiator. With plastic, it's not a question of if but when it will fail. Plastic loses integrity at a measured rate under normal conditions but that rate is accelerated with thermal cycling.

Give me Brass or Bronze.

A new behr radiator is in the $300 range. what would it cost to have an all
metal radiator built?

They are made all the time for the Hot Rod industry.

The metal one in my old Datsun PU, (signature) has been used for the past
30 years and 467K miles. I have always used Distilled water in it, along with
the antifreze of course.
