W211 E320 Outside Driver's Door Handle

It appears last night a vandal attempted to get into our 2006 E320 CDI. They didn't make it it, but now the outside driver's door handle no longer seats flush with the lock.

I've pulled the lock and handle out and there doesn't appear to be any broken plastic. Compared to the passenger door, there doesn't appear to be enough "return tension" on the plastic handle to keep it pulled in flush with the lock. I assume there is a spring that has been bent somewhere internally.

I assume it is now necessary to pull apart the entire door and get to the bearing bracket?

Is there any way to fix this without pulling the door completelyapart? Any tips from those who have done this would be great too.
