I need Oregon fuel to break 20 mpg in our '97 Suburban 6.5T 2WD with 3.73 gears.

How does 2.7 liters move a loaded Sprinter at freeway speeds?

Here's your engine - 6.5 Diesel Engine Complete 1996

Or this - CUMMINS DIESEL ENGINE 6 CYL 190 HP READY TO GO

Or - 1989 ford/international 7.3 idi diesel engine

No chevy diesel I work on them in the military and there crap. He 12 valve is interesting im going to do more research. Im probably going to stick with the Isuzu 4bd here is a link I am following
Isuzu 4BD2T diesel swap into Suburban

If anyone know of a Isuzu 4bd or a cummins 4bt cutout that runs for under 2200 please tell me. In california

My suburban has no computer for tranny shifting so I wont have to worry about the computer to shift it. Im getting an adapter to run the suburbans tranny and transfer.

That Isuzu engine will be hard on that light duty 4L60 trans.

a different forum?

Have you visited the www.4btswaps.com forum? It's more than just 4BT Cummins. I'm currently investigating a 12V Cummins swap into a crew cab pickup truck.

Well if you are just a young family man with two babies shortly, trying to get by on a "military" wage, it seems to me you want to jump through a whole mess of expensive hoops just to get some mileage. Man these systems have all kinds of engineering and planning behind them that I don't think you have began to consider. Why not for the sake of cost, efficiency, safety, reliability and more, why don't you just buy a well maintained Civic or a Toyota or a Mazda. I get so tired of these "day dreams" and just thought I would put my two cents in with the rest.

Jim may be right but my two cents is that unless one is planning to tow large trailers a 617 turbo should do fine in a burb with the 410 rear end. I bet it will get 20 mpg or better too. Won't win any drag races of course.

I had several suburbans with the 6.2 and pulled travel trailers all over the place with them with the 373 diff. Of course without a tail wind it was flat on the floor about 65 mph on the freeway.

You don't want a 24V Cummins with the $1000 injection pump and necessary $600 aftermarket lift pump and required electronics. I love Cummins but get a 12 Valve which was pre 1998.5.

Hmmm. I must have an incredibly powerful 6.2 in my 92 J code 2500 PU... 3.73 diff, 85 ratio tires, so TALL, and I'm constantly having to slow down when towing, I'll easily hit 80... I have issues with tall hills of course, but on interstates, and moderate hills, never have any power issues... no turbo on her... all stock too...

Yeah, my 95 3/4 4x4 burb has a 6.2L turbo with a 4.10 full floater with a 4L80E. As far as your opinion on the GM Detroit Diesels, I appreciate where you're coming from working on them daily. But honestly, that's just it. You work on them everyday. A friend of mine who works at a Dodge dealer in town, HATES Cummins diesels, and refers to them as pieces of garbage that are over-engineered without the benefits. He also think they are a rip off when it comes to parts prices. I dont agree with him, but I see where he's coming from working on them everyday, that the majority of diesels he sees. As far as the Detroit diesels 6.2/6.5's, they are what they are. They were built for MPG. I have 4 trucks that I tow with regularly, and work VERY hard. I rarely have a problem with them. Yes, they arent the powerhouses of later generations diesels, but reliable, and efficient. That said, I've love to find a Isuzu, or Nissan Diesel (like the International Scouts used) to toy around with. I hope you get it going though man. Keep us posted!!

What do you tow? If it is a utility trailer or something with less frontal area than a Travel trailer sure you could go faster easily. It is the wind resistance that really limits you on the freeway, once you get it all rolling.
