We have used a tiger torch inside a scrap pipe directly below the oil pan 30 minutes latter it would always start. We did this for many years when we were more active skiing.

I missed this thread
With winter fast approaching i've been thinking of a few ideas for 'emergency heating procedures'. Both my car and truck have functioning block heaters which have never let me down. However I do sometimes think it would be prudent to have a backup to keep in both cars when there isn't an electrical outlet nearby. I've been thinking about the issue and wondered if anyone has ever used those little chafing fuel canisters to heat the block. Chafing fuel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Thoughts? |
Through trial and error I was able to get a stubborn 617 running,an unkept glow plug system and a 25 degree morning makes her crankey .A simple Holmes ceramic heater allows you to lay down the heater right up against the oil pan sideways ,a large aluminium turkey pan with one side cut down kept the heat underneath the oil pan, also with the pan I curled the sides up as much as possible to keep the cold wind at bay.It took an hr wait with both the heater on and a battery charger keeping the battery up to get it to start.A descent magnetic pan block heater can be bought at a local Northern Tool but their not kept on the shelf ,one thing that you guys up north probably have 2 or more sitting around the garage.

Have the new GP for her, but with the rust around the threads etc... and one wire spade rusted off, I`ll wait till I get moved. Don`t want a broken off GP in the head. Charlie |
