'83 OM617 wont shutoff...even with manual lever
Hello all,
I have recently been having issues with my car not turning off. Symptoms first appeared immeidately after removing/replacing the dash to do some wiring and bulb replacements, etc. I assumed that I had inadvertently knocked one of the vacuum lines off from the ignition switch, but I checked those and they were still fine/no leaks, etc. After I checked that, I went to shut her off at the manual stop lever and it stumbles a bit, idles a little lower but doesnt shutoff. I can remove the linkage from the lever and get it to shutoff by pulling pretty hard on it, but it just barely shuts down. I've been stalling the car (manual conversion) when I need to shut it down (for the last week or so) but that's getting to be annoying and I'm not sure what long term effects of that will be. Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas about what I can try to do while troubleshooting this issue. Thanks in advance for your time! Josh p.s. this injection pump is the original one with 325K or so on it but I replaced the vac shutoff about 25K ago. perhaps that has somehow gone bad and is now preventing the manual shutdown from properly engaging? I have a fresh rebuilt IP that I can install, but it has larger elements and I don't have the time to modify anything and install the larger VNT that I have for it so I don't think that's an option, but may try it just to see. |
