A "Huh?" moment with state inspection 1995 E300D
I bought Tyler's 95 E300D last week and drove it home from Kansas without issue. I took it to a shop that I trust in the area for a state inspection prior to having it registered in Maryland. (So if it fails I'm still allowed to drive it until I register it)
The report came back that it has play in one of the drag link ball joints, a leak around the fuel filter and play in what they called the driveshaft bushing... oh and I forgot to reconnect the EGR valve. I got clarification on the "driveshaft bushing play" to mean that they took the driveshaft and applied torque by hand. They said that the driveshaft appeared to move before the yoke of the transmission moved. I explained that the guibo (they never heard that word or "flexdisc" before) is constructed in a way that it won't really allow torsional play unless it's failing. So they inspected it further and said it doesn't have any cracks or fraying on any surface they could see. I haven't noticed any noise or clunking when driving the car and I haven't been able to get under the car to do an inspection myself (yes, I know... ![]() Anybody have a clue as to what they could be describing and how it happens?
