2008 GL320

So my brother has reentered the diesel world. He bought a 2008 GL320 CDI 46,000 miles owned by a older couple in Va. It is loaded.
What are the known issues?

Well I'm guessing by the replies that there are no known issues

Original Owners, SMART!

They "Got Out of It" before the 50K milage mark (Warranty Expires)

Was this chassis "Assembled" in Vance/Tuscaloosa,Alabama ?
[Then it's an "Alabama Trash Can"]
(DB has Great Trouble selling them ANYWHERE except the U.S.A.)
(Or the U.K. The Limeys have trouble Doubting that the salesman lies.)

Ok my brother called and was going to replace the glow plugs while we were in Colorado. He got the plugs put some lady service advisor in Houston told him your have to adjust the fuel injection or you could have problems.

Sounds like BS to me. I'm guessing the control module needs to be replaced maybe, but that looks like the easy part. Does anybody have a video of the process on a GL 320?

Thanks

Your brother's GL has the same OM642 engine as my wife's ML320 CDI

On the glow plugs, they superseded the glow plug design and they have a different operating voltage than the originals. So you have to replace all 6 and the control module, which is right up front on the passenger side of the engine. Look for the big fat red wire coming from the under hood fuse box on the passenger side, and trace it to the controller hidden under a bracket on the air mixing chamber.

Check these links I wrote:

OM642 service tips

OM 642 camshaft position sensor replacement

OM642 glow plug replacement

W164 front light bulb replacement

W164 battery replacement

And I didn't start this thread but I've been through it, my posts start a few pages in.

A journey into the the infamous Om642 oil cooler leak!
