85-84 trans swap need some advice, Neutral Safe Start harness
Putting a transmission from a 84 300cd into an 85 300TD and have hit a few snags. The 85 has an updated NSS connector. Are the wires the same? Can i just splice over the 84 connector? When removing the 300td engine I stupidly forgot to remove the exhaust. Ended up unwinding the flex pipe before i noticed. What would be the best plan of attack? Cut up the pipe, cut the flex pipe out of the 84 and weld it in (i have a mig welder)? Id imagine I could take that part of the exhaust from the 84 and put it in the 85 but the 85 is a kali car.
Can you buy the flex pipe stuff? Im thinking I might just buy a length of it and put a few jubille clips on it and call it done. Is the transmission gear selector rod supposed to be bent on the 300td? This ones bent in weird angles but was working fine.

I don't see why you couldn't splice in the older style NSS wire connector. In theory you should have input power for the starter and output power to starter. Input power for the reverse lights and output power to the reverse lights. You should take a 12 volt testing light, jumpers or a volt meter to test it. I believe the 190 uses the same newer style NSS as in the '85. So if you can't find a wiring diagram for that, you might be able to use the 190's.
As far as the flex pipe, you can get those new from an exhaust shop clip it in or go with your plan of welding in the '84s flex pipe.

The purple wires are for the starter. think one is purple and the other is purple with a white stripe.
the other two are grey/yellow stripe and black/ yellow-red stripe for the back up lights. this is what is on my 85 123. Charlie

You can probably swap the harnesses if the one from the 84 is available. It plugs into a socket behind the drivers side of the console behind the trim panel near the top.
