Antenna Cable Replcement
On my 87 300D I'm trying to replace a broken radio antenna coax cable. The connector in the trunk broke. Tried spliceing in a salvaged end connector but the center wire in the coax cable is so delicate the fix only lasted a couple of weeks. I bought a NOS cable. Trying to remove the old cable is a real pain in the you know what. It got stuck in the center tunnel. Any suggestions on how to thread the new cable through the trunk to the radio?

you should be able to take the whole mechanism out of your car, open the case and remove it that way. I think there is pictures around about that

I'm sorry maybe I miss communucated. The cable I want to replace is the whole coax cable between the radio and the antenna. Is there an easy way to thread it through the acr?

OH! I thought you were talking about the mast... I highly doubt you'll have an easy time threading that sucker through the car. it loops around a lot to get to the radio.. might have to almost gut the interior to replace it.

It follow`s along various wire bundles and is zip tied with the bundles. so won`t be able to just pull it out.
Lift out the back seat bottom, and see where it comes into the cabin from the trunk. lift up the carpet and see if it runs along with the vacuum lines under the black cover plate towards the drivers seat, and then maybe across the front of the drivers seat and under the consoul to the radio. may be the most likely route. To replace mine (124 250D right hand drive) the rear seat back had to be removed, 3 bolts along the bottom edge and lift a little to unhook it at the top.
The Coax comes thru the rear bulkhead, under the rear seat and into the plastic wiring trunk that runs along the cars floor, then up to the radio under the carpet at about the same fore/aft place as the radio. The front seat secures the carpet down so that has to come out along with the clip on trim at the bottom of the front & rear doors, easy to do, it just takes a little time, the opportunity to give it a good clean out in the places you just cant access shouldn't be missed. |
