Hi, guys.
I've "lurked" all the posts about this issue, as I usually find an answer without posting any questions. No such luck this time around. The door locks, trunk and fuel cap are locked on my 1982 300SD. I replaced fuse 13, which had blown, no dice. Pulled the battery (to reset vacuum pump), no dice. The vacuum pump in the trunk does not run, and door locks don't unlock when you turn the key. I pulled the back seat, looking for the "magic cable", which I apparently don't have. I also looked at the vacuum lines, hoping there was a tee I could disconnect and suck on, no dice. I have tried the (master) key in every possible possible position in the trunk keylock, no go. I am aware of the thread where the guy tells how to drill the lock, but I'm not hot on trying that. Finally, in desperation, I contacted a fellow who bills himself as a "mobile mechanic" specializing in Mercedes. I don't have great hopes, as I spoke with the man and he insisted that in 30 years of working on Mercedes he had never seen an older diesel with a vacuum pump in the trunk (like mine). The car is out of gas and I can't get the fuel cap open, so it will sit where it is and I'll let him have a go at it. In the meantime, if anybody has any suggestions I haven't seen, I'd appreciate the input.

The only Key that I got when I bought my Car will not turn the Trunk Lock or the Glove Compartment. My understanding is that this is the Valet Key. The one you would give some one to park your Car. The Key only works on the Door Lock and until my Vacuum lock System failed turning the Front Door Lock unlocked the Trunk with the Trunk Lock in the Position the previous owner left it. On mine installed a Wire Pull Cable before the system failed entirely; and I disconnected the Vacuum from the locking system. If you have your original Locks the Dealer can supply you with the Keys. You will need to bring your VIN Number and your Registration to show you own the Car. Ask the Dealer if how my Description ofl what Key does what is correct. Also there must be one of our Members who could answer the question about the Keys.

In theory, positive pressure in the "lock" circuit would have the same affect as negative pressure in the "unlock" circuit. (With the doors locked, the "unlock" circuit is likely vented at the pump.)

Try this. The right side license plate can be removed, two screws, now push in or retract the bulb assembly. With a small mirror the lock can be looked at and contact with a stiff wire. You may have to remove both lights to get light in there from one side and pull the lock open from the other. The lights may come out without damage but are cheep to replace.

I have had similar problems occasionally with my 1984 126 300SD. I go to open the trunk and its NO GO. Un lock the drivers door and that should unlock Everything -- NO GO. Go to the passengers door put the key in Lock it. Go back to drivers door put the key in and Lock it. Now go back to the passengers door unlock it, go to the trunk and yes unlock it push the button in and it should unlock. This has worked for me 4 times, I don't understand it, I havn't tried to figure it ou, I just did it and said Thank You with eyes raised skyward. Best of luck and if anyone knows why this works let us know.
