Looking at another diesel. Not MB though.

I'm going to look at a 1990 Dodge Ram 2500, with the 12v Cummins. It looks ok in pictures, but the paint is shot.

240,000 miles and a 5 speed manual tranny. A/C is said to still operate.

Anyone know what problems that could be a deal breaker? Guy wants $3000. Kelly BB shows $2300 as low retail, since the paint is quite toasty.

Thanks!

I would jump on that. Those older Dodges are pretty desirable, and they're very economical. You may want to find out if the errant dowel pin in the timing cover has been secured, and if the transmission is original. The Getrag 5-speed did not have a very good service life. Overfilling it with oil helps quite a bit.

I believe that was only a problem for the 94-02 MY. Do a search for killer dowel pin cummins

Statistically, you're correct. However, it can still happen on a first generation engine.

Yep, very true. I do not know if that has been done yet. When I replace the water pump, I'll go ahead and do the KDP prevention fix.

I had a 90 d350 dually 5 speed with gear under drive. Only problem is when you hit a pebble you back was out for a week.. Also had airbags!! If you have loose steering or want to tune your pump pm me. Theres a simple mod that makes that truck nore desirable to drive around town.... Yes it will smoke a little. And you dont have to touch the fuel pin. Make sure you adjust your valve right away itll cause a smoother ideal and its easy.

I spoke to the owner, and there have been no mods on the truck, like increasing fuel output, etc. I do not think the errant dowel pin has been secured. Tranny is original, he says no grinding or binding, so we'll see.

Thanks for the info!!!

I got it Jimmie!!!!

Oh, and heres a real kicker...I got laid off today. No, I am not selling my diesels!!!

Oh well, I have been working a PT gig, and they offered FT. It's 100% commission sales. I've been doing well with it so far. That is how I was able to pay cash for the truck.

What I do, is help people who are wishing to start up, acquire or expand thier business. If any one is interested, just PM me or e-mail me and I'll send you a link.

If the body has no rust, jump on it.

It was made when Chrysler dtill existed and the guys who made it at the Warren Truck plant knew what they were doing and took pride in their work.

...can't kill the Cummins 12V B engine either. Think of it as a big happy 617. I don't know where I'd be if I didn't have my old Dodge to haul all the other stuff I put on my car trailer !

I have an 89 with automatic. Great truck, poor cooling and brakes. You get better brakes on the 90. If towing a lot go to the one ton brakes, they will fit into the current drums. This is a wider shoe, and larger wheel cylinder.

I recored the radiater with one more row of tubes. Again heavy towing, I go up to about 15,000 lbs of trailer.

If that dowel pin hasn't been fixed you will want to do that. The Ve pump is much weaker than the P7100 but you still can't beat a 12v
