When I purchased my 1980 W116 300SD (with 5 cylinder OM617 turbodiesel engine) the previous owner had installed a hot air intake which the turbo had melted.
I found the bottom half of the original air cleaner in the trunk with a broken oil separator. I installed this in my car and used the lid from a 1979 300SD that didn't have an oil separator.
I'm finally getting around to putting it back to stock but have some questions. I found an air cleaner at the wrecking yard, but the housing was smashed so I unbent the tabs and removed the plastic oil separator components to replace the broken ones in my housing. I thought that there would be baffling of some sort inside, but it was hollow. Is there supposed to be some kind of baffling inside the oil separator?
I also found the correct air cleaner lid and was wanting to replace the grommet that fits in the lid and the upper end of the oil separator sticks out of. Despite being very familiar with using EPC.net, I could not find this grommet anywhere! Does anyone know the part number for it? The only number on the grommet is "20".
I was also hoping to find a plug for the hole in the air cleaner to turbo elbow tube since I will no longer be connecting the breather tube there (now it will connect to the top of the air cleaner--pictured below is the old setup).
