W126 Dashboard Swap

My question is, will a dashboard from a 1989 420SEL drop in to a 1982 300SD or will I have mounting bracket and HVAC plumbing nightmares?

'88 420SEL to '82 300SD front seat swap

88 420 SEL seats moved to a 82 300SD
I'd love to upgrade my 82 300 SDs front seats with those of a 88 420 SEL.

My local junkyard has a splendid 88 with lumbar and memory.

My 82 300SD has neither. I'm contemplating removing the 88 seats, track, wiring, and seat switch and transplanting to the 82.

Anyone know the issues I may be facing?

Besides the seats, there is a fine example of a crack free blue dash cover.

Air bag is issue

The 420SEL has an airbag where the glove box is on the SD
and there are a few structural differences you'll have
to mess with to make it fit. Don't do it.

Unless he gets a later dash with the nonairbag, then it will work.

Solidsnake and I did this with a 1990 dash for his 87 560SEL.

Maybe it was an 87, because I took the dash from a 420SEL and there is no airbag, there IS a glovebox, havent done the install yet

For some reason I thought passenger airbags were standard in all Gen II W126s but found the following info in Wikipedia.

The passenger side airbag
premiered in 1986 as an option and
became standard in 1989 for the 560 SEL and 560 SEC and was
made standard in 1991 for all models.
