95 E300D, AC Compressor always on?????

My fathers 95 E300D ac compressor clutch is always engaged. Ac off, econ on/off, ac on doesnt matter, the ac clutch and compressor are always on when the car is running.

We have checked the relay, swapped the ac control behind the battery, changed the ac module/control unit/push button deal in the dash with no difference.

What else might be causing the clutch to stay engaged? I have never seen a clutch fail and stay engaged so I expect it is a electrical issue somewhere.

Also to clarify, we bought this car recently and the ac compressor has always run. We suspect a PO wired the compressor clutch but yet we can't find any signs of tampering.

Help?????

the 95 is cursed with the melting wiring harness... this could be the issue. if you unplug the compressor, does it stay engaged? I've seen clutches weld themselves together before.
