Power steering fluid '97 E300

What kind of power steering fluid is appropriate for a '97? Mercedes-supplied, or will another brand work?

Thanks,

If the '97 is the same as the '96, you can use any brand you wish. I personally prefer a clear (colorless) fluid as it's easier to see when it begins to get dirty. Some people use ATF (and "some" includes me at one time). Whatever you use is better than not changing it at all, which is what happens to many cars. Mercedes did not include changing the power steering fluid in any of their services; my car at 249,000 miles had never had its fluid changed. It was black with age and the PO was told the PS pump was bad. Indeed it was damaged but mostly it just wanted fresh fluid.
