driveline woes

Got my driveline balanced a few months back after discovering I had blown up the flexdisc at the rear of my transmission. While removing the flexdisc I learned that the rear flang was broken as well as the bushign at the tip of the driveshaft. Took the driveshaft into the shop and they fixed it up with a new bushing and a balance. put it all back together and all was well... for 2 months. Went under the car on monday to inspect how everything was riding and noticed strings coming out of the flex disc. Took it apart to see another dead driveshaft bushing and an oblonged hole in the transmission flange. OK I have to find this problem. Made a call to Garrett and got him to lend his eyes and brain to the problem. we took out the crossmember I was using to hold up the transmission (got is from a 115 240d) and compaired it to one he had for a 123 300D they had a totally diffrent shape. the 115 mout held the transmission about an inch lower then the 123 crossmember and held it a little sideways. the 123 mount is not wide enough for the 126 but using the floor jack we were able to hold it all in line as if the 123 mount was installed. sure enough, A mount shaped like the 123 mount installed int he 126 wlould solve my problems. I set to work finding that crossmember. after a day on the EPC and an afternoon in Garretts stash pile I didn't find one that would work. That left me with one option, Build one!

So I made a model of the underside of the car. the car is flat and then the trans mout drops down a bit from the flat plane that is the bottom of the car. so I took some plywood and screwed a pice of wood to it to represent the trans mount, then cut up the old mount and scrwed it to the wood where it needed to be.

Then welded it up.

I worked on this til 1am last night. I have 1 more corner to weld up. I'm farther along in the welding then this picture shows.

I hope this eliminated my driveline woes.

Didn`t the Euro 280SE use a standard transmission? yeah like there is a lot of those laying around?
I guess the EPC is for the North American mkt and woldn`t show one.

Hope it works out this time.
