recommended upgrades? w210 e300

hello everyone, i've just purchased my first w210, a 1997 e300 diesel. aside from regular maintenance and repairs, what would be some good upgrades to consider? are there e55 amg parts that make nice upgrades, brakes or suspension? what have you guys done to improve this model?

thanks

I just got a '97 too - welcome to the club. You might find more information on body and wheel upgrades over at the W210 forum on BenzWorld. There's good technical information there too, but not as much as here. Having said that, they have a set of W210 technical articles that are worth looking over.

Don't alter suspension. I have some serious stupid money in my '98 E300 with H&R springs, k-mac control arm bushings, and MB Arts adjustable rear camber links. It's an excellent chassis when refreshed with quality parts just as the engineers intended. Even the 98-99 turbo models won't ever go fast enough to warrant the need for upgraded brakes. I would evaluate the wear itms (bushings, shocks, links exc.) and go from there.

1. Dem fuel lines.
2. Dem glow plugs.
3. When I had my intake off, I cleaned a ton of EGR gunk out of it.

how about this idea? has anyone changed the side mirrors on their early e210, for the ones from a late w210? the late w210 mirrors have the turn signal indicator light built into the housing. is it an easy swap? has anyone done this?

thanks

another idea: how about changing the tail lights for the ones from an e55? the e300 tails have that weird oval shape on them, kind of meh. the e55 tails look much better. just a cosmetic thing.

If I were to upgrade my '96 E300 I would swap it for another '95 E300. Having said that, my wife likes the '96 and it's her car so not much I can do about it.

I would suggest that you have someone with a good deal of experience, have a look at the spring perches up front, and make sure that they are sound. They are not glitzy upgrades, but if one of them goes its "game over"! Just had the right one go on my 96, and it ain't pretty. Luckily for me, it happened right in front of the door. Hate to see what would have happened if I were doing 70 mph!!!!! Good luck with your new car..

HID low beams.

If/when the fan clutch fails, I believe the 98-99 E300 clutch is cheaper. There's also the 98-99 E300 11-blade fan.

Jeremy fitted E420 sway bars to his '95 E300. Maybe V8 or AMG sway bars will give you better cornering stability without a jarring ride.
