[QUOTE=giff;3004332]Well, it would seem that the injectors are clearing out after 1200+ miles. Car accelerates better.

Now it looks as if my two rear injectors are leaking fuel (motor side of fuel lines). I have a strong fuel smell while driving and my mileage is in the pooper......

What's the fix for this and did the injector cleaner loosen up gunk & caused this leaking?

CORRECTION: The little black nipple that covers the last fuel return, has a little slit in it and is leaking fuel onto the valve cover. Can I repair or replace easily....?

Thanks,

The replacement for the nipple cover is a piece of hose with a metal stopper. You should be able to replicate it with a short screw and some silicone caulk. Glue in the screw and give it a chance to set up over night then install and you are good to go.

Sixto,

As always, thanks for the quick response and your generous coaching. It looks to be the most rear (#6?) injector has a rubber nipple over one of the two return lines. It has a slit and is leaking fuel on the back of the motor.

I was in VT over the weekend and noticed the fuel smell, so a quick inspection (w/o motor running) showed wet injectors.

I just inspected it in my driveway with the motor running and saw fuel spraying from the side of that nipple.

I looked through all my junk drawer (in my tool chest), but have nothing that small. I removed the nipple & am trying a dab of liquid nails. It's setting up in the sun now. Hopefully it'l get me to my indy tomorrow....

Any other shade tree fixes you can think of???

Thanks again.

What Tom said. There's not much pressure in the return lines so a ball bearing in some generic rubber vacuum line should hold.

It won't be long before the rest of the return lines fail. It's not difficult to replace the return lines. You'll have to chip off the old brittle line where it sticks to the injector nipples. Cut to generous measure in case you work on the injectors and they settle in different clockings. There's no inlet or outlet nipple so connect the new lines however easiest. Buy the proper braided hose if you run pump Diesel. Buy Viton or Tygon lines if you run anything else. A 603 takes a bit more than a meter so ask for a generous meter. In a pinch, get lawn equipment fuel line. I used some I got at OSH for a couple of bucks in January while waiting to build a parts order, and it's not even the good Tygon stuff. I have the proper braided line now but it's fun to watch the bubbles in the transluscent lines. Oddly, the bubbles are still there!

Ha! But my end plug is still OE

Thanks guys. I opened the slit up a little and put a dobb of liquid nails, let it set in the sun, then made sure it stayed put with TIGHT electrical tape (since that's all I could think of).
It held, but I'm sure the diesel will attack the tape and fail. I'll do an entire new set of return lines and be done with it.

Thanks again,

PK

Is this the one that was $4500 from a guy named Pete?

I looked at that car. Are you happy with it? I wasn't ready to buy but it adds to my education.

thanks

Yes, happy with the car, just going through and doing what needs to be done to drive it reliably. I flew
to Norfolk & drove it back to Boston. Prolly ~ 1500 miles in 2 weeks.

It was a respray at some point, you but definitely accurate odo. It must have been stored outdoors,
as the headlights, bumpers etc. are rough, but the undercarriage is immaculate. That was important,
as all the cars in the Northeast are rusted badly at that age.
