What is the panel on the bottom of mercedes that catches any oil drips etc called?

It also helps contain road noise. Thanks BTW anyone have part numbers for this part for a 1995 E300d and a 1994 S350D?

Encapsulation panels. Hang on for part numbers...

[edit] EPC is acting up on my PC. There's no cost to use it so sign up for access at epc.startekinfo.com . You'll need a credit card as proof of US residency.

The panel that is below my mercedes to catch oil drips is called "cardboard."

I couldn't resist. Sorry to not be helpful.

E300, as JimmyL says, there's no D on the trunk lid:

engine 124 520 95 23
transmission 124 520 34 24

S350, you know what JimmyL says:

front 140 520 03 23 up to VIN A191708 (2nd rev), 140 520 05 23 up to A280753, 140 520 08 23 since (2nd rev)
engine 140 520 01 23
transmission 140 520 07 23 (4th rev)

I hope the clips and brackets are in place or it's going to be a messy order. The standard screw with a big washer is 201 990 05 36

Catches drips for a while, until they accumulate and co-mingle then they spill out one drain hole in the panel on to the floor where you can't tell where its from originally.

I like reinstalling it after an oil change - I hold one side up with my foot the other side with my arm and tighten the screws with a wrench. Looks like I'm making a snow angel or half a jumping jack.

I do like them though.

They catch tools and small parts too; but when you're working topside, sometimes it's comforting to hear something hit the floor.

Some folks experimented and found that coolant temps were within a degree with and without the panels. The difference is engine sound levels in Diesels (someone with a decibel meter and quantify but I can hear the difference) and heat soak when you shut off the engine. To me that's the trade-off - noise vs heat soak.
