Any able to read a data card?
1 Attachment(s)
This was in my 85 Euro...
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1348601213 I know hard to read, but taken with kids iPod... Still, whats it all mean? |
Just google Mercedes option codes :)
|
Or go into EPC www.startekinfo.com
(If you don't have it, get it, it's free for US residents) put in your VIN Select Datacard from the top menu Select print, it will print out a new datacard with the explanations of the numbers. |
I just posted this the other day -
I do this to be humorous, not condescending - Google search results - then choose the Comprehensive option code list result. Sixto 87 300D |

So here is what I found out the card says.... And it corresponds to everything I see in the car. Also did a full car check on it, totally clean, odometer checks out no wreaks or any other surprises... Note the Airbag, and the front wipers for the headlights plus the fact it's turbo, and has the automatic climate control. (had me worried for a bit cause I was expecting a euro to be non turbo and to have the 3 dial setup for air) I swear I learn more and more cool things about these cars everyday. Data codes. 411 from 01.10.1965 to 31.10.1993 MECHANICAL AND HYDRAULIC SLIDING ROOF 438 " SAFETY BELTS, FRONT, REAR AND CENTRAL" 444 TEMPOMAT (CRUISE CONTROL) AND AIRBAG 466 CENTRAL LOCKING SYSTEM 481 UNDERSHIELDS 512 " BECKER RADIO EUROPA CASSETTE, FULL STEREO, ELECTRONIC LW/MW/USW" 531 AUTOMATIC ANTENNA 545 " DOUBLE ROLLER BLIND USED AS LUGGAGE AND PASSENGER GUARD, LOCKABLE GLOVE COMPARTMENT" 570 FRONT FOLDING ARMREST W202 - HOUSING AT FRONT WITH ARMREST 588 AUTOMATIC CLIMATE CONTROL AND ELECTRIC WINDOW LIFTERS (FRONT AND REAR DOORS) 593 " GREEN HEAT-INSULATING GLASS ALL ROUND, HEATED REAR WINDOW, SINGLE PANE SAFETY GLASS - TINTED STRIP" 600 HEADLAMP WIPER/WASHER 640 ALUMINIUM DISC WHEELS WITH RADIAL-PLY TIRES' 665 (662+664) 10 LITERS OF FUEL, 10 LITERS OF FUEL AND MODE OF PACKING VE III 674 " HIGH-CAPACITY BATTERY, TROPICAL VERSION" 205 MUSHROOM LEATHER ? Does it have encapsulation panels (481)? Never seen them on a 123.

Drive Left or Right -- Guide to Which Countries Drive On the Left or Right This car was imported to Huntsville Al. and spent it's entire life there until I bought it. The service records are complete up to 2003 via dealer, then independent shops from that point on right up to about a month before I got it. Carfax also verifies this. Really a neat find and it's in amazing condition. I just wanted to get some more fact about it before I started to restore it. (wanted to make sure it correct) |

481 can be just a protective layer on the underside of the car 205 is manual and maintenance booklet in English 812 is rear-mounted loudspeakers with fade control 623 is the colour of the car: Ivory (you can see the 623 in the top right, that is where the colour of the car is indicated) 255 is upholstery = Cream white MB Tex |

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...l-img_4506.jpg Car is not ivory. It's kind of a yellow cream? Color matches even in the engine compartment... http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...3004571342.jpg 438- The car has seat belts, all the way around including the rear jump seat. Here's the tag again on the door... http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...l-img_4505.jpg One really odd thing is the drivers side door. Someone has put an extra key hole there. I'm guessing it was for the alarm system, which seem to be pretty extensive in the car. I will go ahead and remove that and have the hole repaired when I do the new paint. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1348663449 Here is a quick shot of the Under-guard.. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1348663523 I had missed the 255- but I show this for it.... 255 from 01.09.1981 to 31.07.1992 " BECKER RADIO MEXICO CASSETTE, FULL STEREO, ELECTRONIC, AM/FM, WITH INTERPHONE AND REMOTE CONTROL" which is odd since it has the 512 also, 512 from 01.03.1985 to 30.11.1990 " BECKER RADIO EUROPA CASSETTE, FULL STEREO, ELECTRONIC LW/MW/USW" Either way, the guy I bout the car from has the original radio (which he stuck into a 240 he has) I'm going to see if I can get it or at least buy the correct one for the car. Will keep the current blaupunkt installed, but always nice to have the original with the car. |
I see cream white MB tex, or are you saying the MB tex has faded and was really brown to begin with?
The colour is 623 Hellelfenbein, which is translated as Ivory White. It is the German taxi colour by the way. I stand corrected on the 438 code. The tag is there because it was a grey market import. The standard dealer installed alarm system had a key hole on the tunnel, never seen one under de door grip. |

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1348665603 235-Cream? Mercedes Leather 80-94 Although I do have english manuals, a lot of the material is like this... http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1348665683 on the 623- 623 from 01.04.1983 to 31.01.1986 VERSION FOR SAUDI-ARABIA IF it was 623L, 623L CAMEROUN Or 623O, 623O from 1978 LIGHT IVORY Full 623 623 from 01.10.1966 to 31.10.1966 BRITISH EAST AFRICA-VERSION 623 from 01.02.1986 VERSION FOR THE GULF STATES 623 from 01.02.1978 to 31.08.1979 REAR LICENSE PLATE MOULDING FOR LICENSE NUMBER FOIL 623 from 01.04.1983 to 31.01.1986 VERSION FOR SAUDI-ARABIA 623 from 01.11.1966 to 28.02.1974 " VERSION FOR UGANDA, TANZANIA, KENYA" 623L CAMEROUN 623O from 1978 LIGHT IVORY 623U from 01.01.1972 LIGHT IVORY It's fun cause it like doing detective work :) The other tags... http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1348667292 http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1&d=1348667335 Both match what I'm seeing on the card. |
255 is indeed leather and not MB tex (my bad). But it should still be creamy white (from 1982). From 1979-1982 the code for creamy white was 235.
If 623 was an option, it would be in the options list, but it is on the spot were the colour of the car is indicated. |

As to the paint, the car has been repainted in the past, poorly. (Lots of runs, and drips, some over spray) BUT the color in the engine compartment etc matches it. Judging by the crappy job done, there is no way they resprayed all the hard areas. Besides, the paint in the engine compartment shows the correct wear, it's defiantly the original color. It would be nice to know for sure, because I want the car repainted to the matching factory code using the correct paint. If it is indeed ivory white for some odd reason, all the better as I like white cars better. But that still would not explain the current color of the cars (not normally painted areas) like said engine compartment, under the hood, floors etc... |

for my 85 the 235 code would be Conti Tires. 235 from 01.04.1966 to 30.09.1970 ELECTRIC WINDOW LIFTERS (FRONT DOORS) 235 from 01.05.1982 CONTI TIRES 235 from 01.09.1973 to 31.08.1979 " CONTI TIRES FOR KENYA, UGANDA, TANZANIA" 235 from 01.03.1964 to 28.02.1966 " SOFT TOP, HYDRAULIC, AUTOMATIC" 235A from 31.10.1970 LEATHER MUSHROOM 235B from 11.12.1995 CUSTOMER SERVICE - STATION AUSTRALIA 235L WUERZBURG BRANCH The 255 code for 85 by this list looks to be the becker mexico... Which is confusing being there is a code for a becker Euro also (512) 255 from 01.07.1965 to 31.05.1972 REAR AXLE RATIO 1 : 3.69 (READING IN KILOMETERS) 255 from 01.04.1974 to 30.11.1977 " BECKER RADIO GRAND PRIX, WITH INTERPHONE AND REMOTE CONTROL" 255 from 01.09.1981 to 31.07.1992 " BECKER RADIO MEXICO CASSETTE, FULL STEREO, ELECTRONIC, AM/FM, WITH INTERPHONE AND REMOTE CONTROL" 255 from 31.10.1996 RADIO MB AUDIO 30 - JAPAN 255A from 05.02.1998 " LEATHER, NAPPA - QUARTZ" 255O from 1978 DESIGNO-OLIVE 255U from 01.01.1994 DESIGNO-OLIVE (OLIVIN) |
You can see on the "dog tag": 623 H, that is the paint colour. It is also on the datacard. The colour I see on the pictures is Ivory White.
The code for creamy white leather was: 1979-1982 235 1982-1985 255 You can see the code in the third column at the top of the datacard. The code matches the colour of the leather I see on the pictures provided. The EPC doesn't show a datacard for WDB1231931F043845, that is strange for a 1985 model. |

BTW, this is the list I'm going by....

Good to know about the actual interior color, I'll need to know that so I can order the replacement material to fix that hole. But look at this picture... take note of the white house behind the car... the car is not white. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...a53be019e4.jpg Here is another , see the white camper behind it? http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...1967ad1d14.jpg And like I said, paint matches the engine compartment, the floors etc... so this is the factory color of the car... |

So, what's your take on the radio? which one did it have exactly? |
Re radio: my options list says the Becker Europa Full Stereo was only fitted until 1982, but that need not be entirely correct. What radio is in the car now?
Re Saudi Arabia: It could be that the car was in SA, but it doesn't have an option code to indicate that it was sold in SA. The car could have been bought in Germany and shipped to SA and from there to the USA. And I'm not sure about SA, but in many countries in the Middle East, you cannot drive a diesel car. It would only get a SA delivery code if the car was sold through the dealer over there. |

The 551 option code shown on the data card indicates a anti-theft system, so your extra lock may be original.

course a nightmare to try and trouble shoot. Here is the alarm horn that was in the car... http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...l-img_4492.jpg It has extra switches in the doors etc for the alarm. If it's factory, cool, ill leave it alone. |
