Or go into EPC www.startekinfo.com
(If you don't have it, get it, it's free for US residents)
put in your VIN
Select Datacard from the top menu
Select print, it will print out a new datacard with the explanations of the numbers.

I just posted this the other day -

I do this to be humorous, not condescending - Google search results - then choose the Comprehensive option code list result.

GREAT!

So here is what I found out the card says.... And it corresponds to everything I see in the car. Also did a full car check on it, totally clean, odometer checks out no wreaks or any other surprises...

Note the Airbag, and the front wipers for the headlights plus the fact it's turbo, and has the automatic climate control. (had me worried for a bit cause I was expecting a euro to be non turbo and to have the 3 dial setup for air)

I swear I learn more and more cool things about these cars everyday.

Data codes.

It has the "off-road" guards under it. I'll have it up on the lift thursday while I put in the new engine mounts and get some pictures.

YA, would make sense. The car was a special import, has the tag (where the normal vin would be) With the original owners name and import information plus vin. It has the automatic A/C plus the under guard protection, 2 things I would think would be handy over there. Saudi is also right hand drive like us.

Drive Left or Right -- Guide to Which Countries Drive On the Left or Right

This car was imported to Huntsville Al. and spent it's entire life there until I bought it. The service records are complete up to 2003 via dealer, then independent shops from that point on right up to about a month before I got it. Carfax also verifies this. Really a neat find and it's in amazing condition.

I just wanted to get some more fact about it before I started to restore it. (wanted to make sure it correct)

This car has Beige leather. Easy to tell as there is a hole in the back rest of the drivers seat and you can see the back of the material easy enough.

Car is not ivory. It's kind of a yellow cream? Color matches even in the engine compartment...

438- The car has seat belts, all the way around including the rear jump seat.

Here's the tag again on the door...

One really odd thing is the drivers side door. Someone has put an extra key hole there. I'm guessing it was for the alarm system, which seem to be pretty extensive in the car. I will go ahead and remove that and have the hole repaired when I do the new paint.

Here is a quick shot of the Under-guard..

I had missed the 255- but I show this for it....

255 from 01.09.1981 to 31.07.1992 " BECKER RADIO MEXICO CASSETTE, FULL STEREO, ELECTRONIC, AM/FM, WITH INTERPHONE AND
REMOTE CONTROL" which is odd since it has the 512 also, 512 from 01.03.1985 to 30.11.1990 " BECKER RADIO EUROPA CASSETTE, FULL STEREO, ELECTRONIC LW/MW/USW"

Either way, the guy I bout the car from has the original radio (which he stuck into a 240 he has) I'm going to see if I can get it or at least buy the correct one for the car. Will keep the current blaupunkt installed, but always nice to have the original with the car.

I see cream white MB tex, or are you saying the MB tex has faded and was really brown to begin with?

The colour is 623 Hellelfenbein, which is translated as Ivory White. It is the German taxi colour by the way.

I stand corrected on the 438 code.

The tag is there because it was a grey market import.

The standard dealer installed alarm system had a key hole on the tunnel, never seen one under de door grip.

It's leather. Here is a picture if the back side of the material...

235-Cream? Mercedes Leather 80-94

Although I do have english manuals, a lot of the material is like this...

on the 623- 623 from 01.04.1983 to 31.01.1986 VERSION FOR SAUDI-ARABIA

IF it was 623L, 623L CAMEROUN
Or 623O, 623O from 1978 LIGHT IVORY

Full 623
623 from 01.10.1966 to 31.10.1966 BRITISH EAST AFRICA-VERSION
623 from 01.02.1986 VERSION FOR THE GULF STATES
623 from 01.02.1978 to 31.08.1979 REAR LICENSE PLATE MOULDING FOR LICENSE NUMBER FOIL
623 from 01.04.1983 to 31.01.1986 VERSION FOR SAUDI-ARABIA
623 from 01.11.1966 to 28.02.1974 " VERSION FOR UGANDA, TANZANIA, KENYA"
623L CAMEROUN
623O from 1978 LIGHT IVORY
623U from 01.01.1972 LIGHT IVORY

It's fun cause it like doing detective work

255 is indeed leather and not MB tex (my bad). But it should still be creamy white (from 1982). From 1979-1982 the code for creamy white was 235.

If 623 was an option, it would be in the options list, but it is on the spot were the colour of the car is indicated.

It may be creamy white... I found a color chart yesterday showing the color options for leather in 1985, there where two cream colors, like mine (very close to each other) but no white. So I'm guessing the creamy white is what we are looking at.

As to the paint, the car has been repainted in the past, poorly. (Lots of runs, and drips, some over spray) BUT the color in the engine compartment etc matches it. Judging by the crappy job done, there is no way they resprayed all the hard areas. Besides, the paint in the engine compartment shows the correct wear, it's defiantly the original color.

It would be nice to know for sure, because I want the car repainted to the matching factory code using the correct paint. If it is indeed ivory white for some odd reason, all the better as I like white cars better. But that still would not explain the current color of the cars (not normally painted areas) like said engine compartment, under the hood, floors etc...
