If 623 was an option, it would be in the options list, but it is on the spot were the colour of the car is indicated.
Also, keep in mind, that 255 code your looking at means that was the option from 79-82 (meaning it does not apply to my 85)

for my 85 the 235 code would be Conti Tires.

235 from 01.04.1966 to 30.09.1970 ELECTRIC WINDOW LIFTERS (FRONT DOORS)
235 from 01.05.1982 CONTI TIRES
235 from 01.09.1973 to 31.08.1979 " CONTI TIRES FOR KENYA, UGANDA, TANZANIA"
235 from 01.03.1964 to 28.02.1966 " SOFT TOP, HYDRAULIC, AUTOMATIC"
235A from 31.10.1970 LEATHER MUSHROOM
235B from 11.12.1995 CUSTOMER SERVICE - STATION AUSTRALIA
235L WUERZBURG BRANCH

The 255 code for 85 by this list looks to be the becker mexico... Which is confusing being there is a code for a becker Euro also (512)

255 from 01.07.1965 to 31.05.1972 REAR AXLE RATIO 1 : 3.69 (READING IN KILOMETERS)
255 from 01.04.1974 to 30.11.1977 " BECKER RADIO GRAND PRIX, WITH INTERPHONE AND REMOTE CONTROL"
255 from 01.09.1981 to 31.07.1992 " BECKER RADIO MEXICO CASSETTE, FULL STEREO, ELECTRONIC, AM/FM, WITH INTERPHONE AND
REMOTE CONTROL"
255 from 31.10.1996 RADIO MB AUDIO 30 - JAPAN
255A from 05.02.1998 " LEATHER, NAPPA - QUARTZ"
255O from 1978 DESIGNO-OLIVE
255U from 01.01.1994 DESIGNO-OLIVE (OLIVIN)

You can see on the "dog tag": 623 H, that is the paint colour. It is also on the datacard. The colour I see on the pictures is Ivory White.

The code for creamy white leather was:

1979-1982 235
1982-1985 255

You can see the code in the third column at the top of the datacard. The code matches the colour of the leather I see on the pictures provided.

The EPC doesn't show a datacard for WDB1231931F043845, that is strange for a 1985 model.

Ya, the russian vin decoder would not work for my vin either. Which is why I originally started the thread.

Good to know about the actual interior color, I'll need to know that so I can order the replacement material to fix that hole.

But look at this picture... take note of the white house behind the car... the car is not white.

Here is another , see the white camper behind it?

And like I said, paint matches the engine compartment, the floors etc... so this is the factory color of the car...

The paint and upholstery codes are different from the options codes. You cannot use the options code list to see what paint and upholstery codes mean.

See the picture of your data card:

In the red circle the paint code
in the light blue rectangle is the upholstery code
in the yellow rectangle are all the options.

Ah, but it is not white, but Ivory White, that looks like teeth from a smoker ;-)

Here you can see another example of Ivory White on German taxis.

AHHH that's so cool! I would have never called that color white in any sense of the word. It makes sense now.

So, what's your take on the radio? which one did it have exactly?

Re radio: my options list says the Becker Europa Full Stereo was only fitted until 1982, but that need not be entirely correct. What radio is in the car now?

Re Saudi Arabia: It could be that the car was in SA, but it doesn't have an option code to indicate that it was sold in SA. The car could have been bought in Germany and shipped to SA and from there to the USA. And I'm not sure about SA, but in many countries in the Middle East, you cannot drive a diesel car. It would only get a SA delivery code if the car was sold through the dealer over there.

The 551 option code shown on the data card indicates a anti-theft system, so your extra lock may be original.

that would be interesting....

course a nightmare to try and trouble shoot.

Here is the alarm horn that was in the car...

It has extra switches in the doors etc for the alarm. If it's factory, cool, ill leave it alone.
